The Leading Force Behind Our Exceptional Service: Get to Know Our Service Manager, Don Davis

  • How long have you been working with MVI, and what led you to this career?

    I started with MVI just over 4 years ago, but have worked with pivots far longer than that. Originally I worked on a large ranch with many pivots, and then made the move to work directly with dealerships.


  • What do you find most rewarding about your role in the irrigation industry? I love helping customers utilize their water in the most efficient manner by repairing their systems quickly to avoid costly downtime.


  • What are some of the biggest challenges farms in MT face regarding irrigation, and how does your team help address them? One of the biggest challenges is the limited irrigation window and the amount of water they have to get the crop completed. This means its imperative that they get the best support possible from their dealer to irrigate efficiently and with top notch equipment.


  • How has irrigation technology evolved since you started in this field, and how has it impacted your work? I have seen the evolution of pivot positioning go from no position needed to GPS corner guided systems and total control from your smart phone. With the new technology, I can be much more efficient in my trouble shooting because of the information I can obtain from the AgSense platform. This is a huge advantage to both you, the grower and me, the technician.


  • Can you share a memorable experience or project that stands out in your career at MVI? This last year, we took six guys and went to Oregon to help another dealer build pivots. The techniques used there, along with the conditions, were considerably different than what we are used to here in MT. Even considering this, we did an awesome job and learned a lot.


  • What advice would you give to someone considering a career in irrigation services? You can't beat the daily view. It is very rewarding knowing that you are one of the few that can help a customer utilize their water efficiently.


  • In your opinion, what sets MVI apart from other irrigation companies in the region? Our service department really stands out - we take care of all of our customers in a timely manner, no matter the size of their operation. Our parts inventory is also far superior, especially now that we have a second location. Perhaps most importantly, the quality of employees that we have is unmatched.


  • As we head into the off-season, why should our customers be taking part in our preventative maintenance program? If we can address an issue in the off-season and get it repaired then, cost and downtime can be drastically reduced. Remember this: it's better to be proactive then reactive.


Conclusion

It's no secret that Don Davis is one of the most knowledgeable "pivot guys" out there. We feel so fortunate to have him leading our service team and teaching the next generation of technicians.
